Kids Discovery Network

Kids Discovery Network is an exciting outreach ministry at First UMC that is gearing up for its fourth year this summer.  We kick off the program in conjunction with Vacation Bible School, offering it as an outreach ministry to youngsters age 8 - 12 who live in our church neighborhood.  Over the course of the next several weeks we work with them Monday through Friday, using performing and visual arts to produce a video about their neighborhood.  The final edited video will be more than just a memento of how they spent their summer.  We hope the project will help to awaken their awareness about the importance of community and caring about your neighborhoods.  Even more importantly, we hope to encourage their awareness that Jesus and the church are dependable sources of strength and refuge.

Many wonderful memories were made this summer at KDN. Who can forget the trips to Lexington Beach, Flames Gymnastix, and the Animal Sanctuary or seeing The Bee Movie at the Krafft 8 and participating in African Drumming at Studio 1219? Besides the fun our KDN kids learned about making choices. KDN followed a curriculum that led the kids to choose to Believe, choose to Act, choose to Forgive, choose to Obey and to choose Jesus. A wonderful time was had by all the participants. Watch for information about KDN 2009.
