Here are a few of the mission projects that we support as a
church. For as many as possible links have been added to learn
more about where our efforts go to.
Blanket Sunday
& CROP through Church World Service.
Last year we sent over
$1,000 for blankets and over $700 towards CROP. Along with
donations to Haiti
and Liberia, these are two world wide projects we participate in.
The
Souper Bowl of Caring
The ELFS collect funds for the Souper Bowl of Caring
project. The money goes
to our local food pantry. We collect perishable goods monthly
that we send to
the local food depot. We support the Neighborhood Ecumenical
Team, which
provides needed cash for those who have emergency needs.
UM Special Sundays
We support our Special Sundays especially One Great Hour of
Sharing. This helps
to pay for administrative costs, so that 100% funds collected for
emergency needs go directly to that need. Other Special Sundays
include Peace with
Justice Sunday, Native Sunday, Student Sunday, Human Relations Sunday
& World
Communion Sunday. These all support important missions within the
Methodist
Church.
Kits for Haiti and Liberia
We collect School, Health, Layette, & Hygiene Kits to be sent to
Haiti. Similar
items are often donated to local agencies as well. Alternating years we
send
kits to Liberia.
Habitat for
Humanity
We helped Habitat for Humanity locally by building of a home in Port
Huron. Over $4,000 was raised to help build the house. Many
volunteer hours were also
donated by members of our church.
Katrina Relief and Mission Trips
Mission teams traveled to Mississippi to help in the recovery of
Hurricane
Katrina. A mission team worked on a church in New Jersey that is
located in a
Haitian community.
Youth Summer
Mission Projects
Our youth participated in mission projects throughout our
community last summer. While staying the week at the church, they
went out during the day and volunteered at different places in the
community and did work for members of the congregation.
Henderson
Settlement
We support Henderson Settlement located in the Appalachian
Mountains. By
collecting Campbell Soup labels and sending a monetary donation, we
help to
continue necessary projects to help the people in these communities.
Coats for Kids
UMM collect coats in the winter to give to those in need. They
work all around the area with local stores to set up drop off stations
for coats and any other nice aticles of warmth such as scarves, hats,
and gloves.
UMW
mission Work
The UMW coordinate
making sleeping bags for the homeless, make shawls to encourage others,
raise
money for our own church projects, and send $4,000 to their national
organization to support many mission projects.
Often individual congregation members travel to various mission
projects
throughout the year. Our church is always supporting those who
work in
missions.
